Win an Octopus ukulele and Also an Octopus!

Our friends at Walker books have just released a new book about a ukulele playing octopus and they’re giving you a chance to win a signed copy as well as an Octopus ukulele!

Also an Octopus is an imaginative book about using your imagination. It follows the story of a musical octopus who wants to explore outer space. The unfortunate cephalopod can’t find a way to travel between galaxies, but perhaps there are some friends that can help! As well as being a compelling tale, it breaks down the storytelling process into easy steps designed to get young authors’ minds whirring.

Anyone can write a story if they have the basic building blocks – a character, something they want, and some obstacles they need to overcome – and as this story proves, it doesn’t matter how mad these individual elements are! The hilarious book is written by Maggie Tokuda-Hall and features engaging illustrations by renowned illustrator Benji Davies (The Storm Whale, Grandad’s Island).jacket

To celebrate the release, we’ve teamed up with the publishers to offer one lucky winner a signed copy of Also an Octopus along with a poster, limited edition print, and an Octopus Ukulele. Five runners up will also get a copy of the book and a poster. All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is to answer the following question:

In Also an Octopus, what does the Octopus want to build?

a) A spaceship
b) A ukulele
c) A waffle maker

Send your answers to competitions@walker.co.uk with ‘Octopus Ukulele’ in the subject line. The closing date is 31st January 2017. Terms and conditions apply.

My grand-daughter Lily loves this site. I’m trying to teach her about conflict as a basic story element.
